I have lived in Las Cruces over forty years and cannot imagine a better place to be. During that time, we raised our sons and I completed my career as a public school educator and librarian. I earned a teaching degree at Texas Tech and a Masters in Reading and Library Certification at NMSU. My lifelong enjoyment of books and reading began early with the encouragement of both my parents (except when I was supposed to be doing chores). I read to my boys until they were teenagers and now read to my grandchildren whenever we are together. And, for more than thirty years I read to my students every day after lunch. I smiled for days after talking to a former student about how much he enjoyed a particular book I had read to him many years ago. Showing children what a friend a book can be is one of life’s greatest joys.
