No one is ever too old or too young to listen to stories or read for information. Books are an important part of my life, and belief in the power of education is a family legacy that has been passed down to me. I am the first person in my family (on either side) to graduate from college. I am indebted to my mother for insisting that I realize her own dream and to two teachers for giving me the confidence to negotiate the educational system.

My life as a teacher began with the desire to advocate for students and their families. At Arizona State University I received Bachelor and Master degrees in Education which led to my career as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, high school teacher, author, professional development facilitator, and teacher trainer.
